Writer: Muzilog StaffMuzilog Staff

Get ready for an unforgettable night of music when Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter Amythyst Kiah takes the stage at Union Transfer in Philadelphia on May 8, supporting the powerhouse duo Larkin Poe. Doors open at 7 PM, with the performance kicking off at 8 PM. Tickets are available for $30-$35, and this all-ages show promises to captivate audiences with Kiah's evocative blend of rootsy alt-rock and cinematic storytelling.

Kiah's latest album, Still + Bright, marks a bold step forward in her dynamic career. Known for her ability to merge powerful, introspective lyrics with diverse musical landscapes, Kiah's second full-length for Rounder Records takes listeners on a profound journey into her inner world. Produced by Butch Walker (known for his work with Taylor Swift, Green Day, and Weezer), Still + Bright dives deep into Kiah's lifelong exploration of Eastern philosophies, her spiritual connection to nature, and her early days as a self-proclaimed "anime-nerd mall goth."

Recorded at Walker's Nashville studio, the album blends the rootsy alt-rock of her 2021 breakthrough Wary + Strange with a darkly cinematic edge. The result is an expansive sonic landscape that fuses fuzzed-out guitars, industrial beats, gilded pedal steel, and Kiah's uniquely graceful banjo work. It's a new direction for Kiah, who has already received widespread acclaim, including making Rolling Stone's list of the 25 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021. Critics like Pitchfork also lauded her for her exceptional songwriting and emotional depth.

Still + Bright represents a major turning point in Kiah's artistic evolution, marking her first collaboration with co-writers. This album sees Kiah team up with punk legend Tim Armstrong, Sadler Vaden of Jason Isbell's 400 Unit, and former Pentatonix member Avi Kaplan, bringing fresh perspectives to her songwriting process. The album's creative evolution stems from Kiah's desire to push boundaries and explore new ways of expression while remaining true to her roots.

Though Still + Bright is a departure from the raw, emotional intensity of its predecessor—which was deeply informed by the tragedy of Kiah losing her mother to suicide at age 17—the album still carries a potent sense of hypnotic intensity. Each track reflects Kiah's rare ability to spin her fascinations and experiences into songs that speak to universal truths about human nature and self-discovery.

Amythyst Kiah's music continues to resonate deeply, making her a must-see act on this tour. Still + Bright is a testament to her uncompromising depth and daring originality, and her performance in Philadelphia will surely be a highlight of the year. Don't miss your chance to experience this incredible talent live in concert.
